Week 18: Cartoon mani FAIL

I'll keep it simple. This week sucked for me. The only cartoon inspired thing I could come up with was the element symbols from Avatar the Last Airbender (great show by the way...check it out!). Well, it was a good concept, but I failed in the execution.

On the thumb I tried to do the arrow that's on Aang's head.....fail. I didn't even try to get color accurate pictures, and I don't remember the polishes.....I'm putting it up here so you guys don't think I'm trying to flake out!
Ugh, much better mani next post, I promise!

Dotticure take 2

"Next time" came pretty quickly lol. I figured I had better get these pictures up while I was on here posting, instead of waiting. I wore this before my Earth Day mani, right after the other dotticure lol. This is the other color wave that I was torn between....I really like them both, and think that both turned out great!

This is Ulta For Bitten as the base, with dots of Julep Jodie, Hayden, and Mandy (and even mixed Mandy and Hayden together!) with CQ Idyllic.....in other words, a LOT of dotting!
Well since my nails are currently bare, I am going to get off the computer and paint them with something pretty!

Week 17: Earth day

So when I think of Earth day, I think of trees and furry critters. However these are not so fun to try and draw/paint on your nails. Since Earth is often times called the "blue and green marble" I decided to use those colors and do water marble nails! I used four colors for this marble: OPI Stranger Tides, Julep Leah, Sally Hansen Gray by Gray (which is really a grayed out blue), and Essie Dive Bar.

I didn't do a set bullseye for this marble....I just kind of winged it. One thing that I learned is that the more rings your bullseye has the better. You really have to keep putting polish in the water until it stops spreading. Otherwise your polish dries too fast on the top of the water and you don't get as much color payoff. Overall I'm pretty happy with this marble since most of the fingers turned out pretty.

Until next time!

Week 16: Dottiure and new house!

I really had fun with this one! I had a tough time picking between two really different color palates and I think that I'll do my other color wave when this comes off.

I started with a coat of Wet n Wild French White creme topped with 2 coats of Revlon Runway Pearl. Then I used my dotting tool (which is really quite small, but it's better than a toothpick) and dotted with Ulta Maine Attraction, Julep Megan, Marisa, and finally Susie. Topped it all off with one more coat of Runway Pearl and quick dry topcoat.

On one of my thumbs I decided to try out the flakies I finally picked up. This is Studio M, Covered in Diamonds and was only $2.99......I figured for that price if I truly hated it, I wouldn't feel so bad. Well, I'm not in love with it, but I don't hate it. I'll have to try it over other colors and see if I can find a combo I really like.

And finally a few new house pictures!

That's all for now....time to get more of the house unpacked/organized/cleaned!

Sally Hansen Plum Burst and Purple Pizzazz

Ok, so here's a proper mani to make up for that abomination I showed you before. Nothing terribly fancy, just a nice free handed side-swipe. I used Sally Hansen Plum Burst for the main color, then side-swiped with Purple Pizzazz.
These polishes were in a 2 pack at the dollar store.....can't pass up 2 polishes for a $1! I think that they are older polishes though and may not be big-3 free, but that doesn't bother me.

Still not unpacked.....packing always goes faster than unpacking. I think because with packing we give ourselves a deadline that we have to meet, then get frustrated and throw it all in boxes/bags. With unpacking there is no such deadline; we just slowly find things as we need them and put them where they go after.
Don't worry, there will be house pictures as soon as it's presentable!

My Horrible Easter Nails

Phew! It's been a long week here. On Wednesday we got news that we were approved for the house we wanted to rent. So we signed the lease on Wednesday, worked and packed on Thursday night into the wee hours, then moved everything on Friday. I think I got about 3 hours of sleep on Thursday.

Wednesday I slapped on this color to help protect my nails from the damage that packing and moving does. This is what they look like after moving. The polish did protect them a bit, but I still broke one, and 2 others were very weak (my OCD makes me cut them all when one breaks, that's why they all are short).
No basecoat, no topcoat, not even an even color coat. Horrible. But I found the polish in a 2-pack for a $1! Can't beat 50 cent Sally Hansen polish! Hopefully, I'll be able to do a proper mani with this soon. Have to get un-packed first!

Also, I'll have to show you pictures of the new place to make you all rightfully jealous!

Week 14: Stripes!

Ok, finally a challenge mani that turned out well! I used Wet n' Wild black, and Metallica for the base color, then a coat (or dabble) of Spoiled Shuffle the Deck. I say "dabble" because the brush flat out SUCKS! I like most wide brushes, but this one was floppy and more like a wet mop. This is one of those polishes that I will either use a different brush, or suffer through the "wet mop" because I love the glitter mix. After that dried, I did 3 vertical stripes in silver and black.

Kinda reminds me of the stripes in some of the costumes in Tim Burton's Sweeny Todd.....Anyway, trying out a new layering system for basecoats/polishes. I'm trying to make it last, without destroying my nail in the process.

Until next time!
